How I Tested Promptchan
This one I audited rather than enjoyed, because the interesting failures are all in the specification.
I counted every list the product exposes: 17 image styles, 10 video styles, 10 in the gallery filter, 40 filters, 12 emotions, 4 body sliders, 3 image sizes, 3 quality steps. Then I mapped which contradicts which, which took longer than the counting.
I ran the generator on its shipped defaults and watched the cost badge: 2 Gems before you touch a single control.
I priced both storefronts line by line and worked the cost per Gem across all six iPhone packs, where the trap is.
Where a figure does not exist, I say so, and there are more of those than a $33.99 product should carry.
The Three Style Lists That Do Not Match
Promptchan runs three separate style lists, and no two of them agree.
The gallery filter offers ten families: Real, Hyperreal, Anime, Anime XL, Cinematic XL, Hardcore XL, Hyperanime, K-Pop, Fur and Furtoon.
The generator itself offers seventeen. The extra seven are Render XL+, Illustration XL+, Anime XL+, Photo XL+, Photo XL+ v2, Hyperreal XL+ and Hyperreal XL+ v2.
Video runs a third list of ten, overlapping both and matching neither.
Hold those together. Every XL+ entry — the newest engines, the ones the upgrade screen sells you — is missing from the gallery filter.
So the models you pay to unlock are the models you cannot browse for — and seeing what somebody else did first is the one thing a 20-million-item gallery is for.
“Real” sits in the gallery and video lists but not the image list, while Promptchan's own worked example asks for Real on an image.
The range underneath the mess is best in class. Anime, Anime XL, Anime XL+ and Hyperanime give four routes to one brief, more than any ai waifu generator offers, and Fur and Furtoon beat most furry and anthro art generators.

Add 1 Gem for face restoration and up to 0.25 more at peak times, a surcharge nobody mentions until it lands on your balance.
What those Gems buy is detail effort, not pixels. Max does not make the picture bigger, it makes the 768px picture better — worth knowing before you spend triple, because people upgrade expecting resolution and get texture.
Judging this generator on its free default undersells it. Ultra to Max on a photoreal prompt is the difference between a decent uncensored ai image generator and a good one.
One axis, three vocabularies, no page anywhere that translates between them. Buy Pro if you want Max, and accept that nothing on the screen will confirm you got it.
The Engine Tier Is Hidden Inside The Style Name
No other promptchan review has explained this, and it is the most useful thing here.
There is no engine setting. The generation is baked into the style string: plain name, then XL, then XL+, then XL+ v2. Choosing Anime XL+ over Anime picks a different model, not a different look.
Seven styles run the original engine. Three run XL, which gallery cards print as “XL 2”. Seven run XL+ or XL+ v2, the current top tier.
Here is what that silently changes: your filter set. The generator carries two separately named filter panels, “XL Filter” and “XL+ Filter”, and four filters exist on only one engine — Pixel XL, Comic XL, Retro Porn XL and Fire Style XL.

Past the styles maze, the control rail is deep and the counts are real.
Forty filters, though the number is padded and I would rather tell you than let you find out. Eight are near-duplicate pairs — Polaroid sits beside “Polariod Picture“, their typo, shipped and live — and five are Cartoon variants. The honest count is nearer thirty distinct looks.
Twelve emotions, Orgasm Face included, a wider spread than most rivals ship.
Four body sliders covering age, weight, breast size and rear, with a hard floor of 18 and an interface default of 21. Every character here is fictional and adult, and that floor sits in the control itself.Then the gaps.
Editing is called Tweak: prompt-based re-generation, where you describe the change and it makes a new picture. No mask, no brush, no inpainting, which puts Promptchan behind anything built for retouching.
Upscaling is locked to Pro. The native ceiling is 768px on the long edge: 512×512, 512×768 and 768×512, nothing else. In 2026 that is small.
And the pose list is published nowhere — not on the generator, not in the tutorials, not in the documentation, which points at a list that does not exist. For an ai girlfriend image generator, that is a product failure rather than a paperwork one.

Ten video styles, portrait, wide and square, optional AI audio, an Extend control that continues a clip seamlessly or into a new scene, and a queue showing your place in line.
A real toolkit, sold without a single number attached. Nowhere does Promptchan state how long a clip runs or what resolution it lands at, and “Full-Length AI Videos” is never defined in seconds anywhere in the product.
Now the trap, and it is the sharpest finding here: clips are deleted after 24 hours unless you publish them.
Publishing is not a share button, it is a rights transfer — you hand Promptchan a perpetual license and every other user a free one. Download inside a day or give it away permanently.
A Pro subscriber who spends 22 Gems on a chat video, closes the tab and returns tomorrow has lost it.

Promptchan Chat Is Cleverer Than You Expect
The breadth argument holds here, and the chat deserves its due before I take something away.
Two selectable models: v2.5 Pro writes deeper and slower, v2.5 Fast keeps a texting rhythm, and message cost changes with the choice. Very few companion apps let you pick an engine.
Two conversation modes: Chat for back-and-forth, Story for directing a scene she then writes. Change her personality or swap her scenario mid-conversation without leaving the thread.
The builder covers name, appearance, personality, occupation, location, backstory, interests, sexuality and scenario, plus 50-plus prewritten scenarios if you would rather not start cold.
Then the feature that justifies the whole thesis: Create image from scene, at 4 Gems. It reads the live conversation — outfit, setting, mood — and generates from that without asking you to re-describe anything.
Candy AI and OurDream run generators alongside their chat; neither wires the two together this tightly.
In-chat video costs 22 Gems, and group chat, personas, gifts and a public character library round it out.
One thing Promptchan cannot keep straight: the upgrade page sells voice calling as Pro-only while the chat tutorial prices voice in Gems on any account, 1 a message and 2 a call. Both cannot be true, and only one is printed on the page taking your money.
Best generator-to-chat integration in this category, and I don't say that lightly. Now the part the marketing skips.
Does Promptchan Remember You? No, And It Never Said It Did
No. Promptchan has no long-term memory, no memory bank, no diary, no cross-session recall of anything you tell it.
The copy sounds like it does. “Talk to an AI girlfriend who remembers who she is” sits on the chat page, and the tutorial repeats it almost word for word.
Read those sentences precisely. Both are about her staying in character. Neither is about her remembering you.
Character self-consistency is not memory.
The conversation is a history window carried forward turn by turn, and when it ends, so does everything in it. No profile, no key-fact extraction, no record of your name, your job or the dog you invented in week one.
That makes the mode toggle worse than it looks: switching between Chat and Story clears the conversation, no undo, no export, on a platform with nothing else holding the thread together.
And every message costs Gems, so the transcript serving as your only memory is also the thing you pay by the turn to build.

Pro at $33.99 is the most expensive monthly tier in my comparison set, and the only one unlocking video.
Annual plans exist. The refund policy carries a clause spelling out that annual Gems are credited monthly rather than dropped in one lump. No annual price appears on the pricing page and no toggle reveals one.
Odd thing to hide, when every rival leads with the annual discount. Candy AI falls from $13.99 to $3.99 a month on twelve months and puts that number on the door.
The refund is thirty days and mostly decorative: you qualify only if you have not made significant use inside those thirty days, on a generator you will spend Gems on within ten minutes. Crypto payments are never refundable.

The iOS App Is Cheaper Than The Website
Every tier costs about 20% less through the iPhone app than through the browser, and this is the most valuable paragraph on this page.

Across a year, Pro costs $407.88 on the web and $323.88 through the app. That is $84.00 for changing which button you press.
This runs backwards to nearly every other subscription product. Companies normally mark app prices up to absorb the store's cut; Promptchan marks them down and says nothing about it on the pricing page.
Nobody with an iPhone should subscribe to promptchan ai in a browser. If you already have, cancel at renewal and start again in the app.
What Your Gems Actually Buy?
One balance funds everything — images, chat, voice, video — so your talkative week and creative week compete for the same money.
Plus gives you 100 Gems. At the shipped default of 2 Gems an image that is fifty pictures a month, twenty-five in-chat scene images, or four chat videos and change.
One 22-Gem chat video eats 22% of a Plus month. That is the number that ends subscriptions around day eleven.
Premium's 400 Gems is two hundred images or eighteen chat videos. Pro's 800 plus unlimited casual generations is the only tier where the meter stops mattering.
Plus at $14.99 for 100 Gems works out at about $0.15 a Gem — roughly seven times what the same Gems cost in a pack.
The iPhone packs invert above 900. The 900-Gem pack at $19.99 is $0.0222 a Gem, the best value on the board; the 3,000-Gem pack at $79.99 is $0.0267, worse per Gem than a pack costing a quarter as much.
Three 900-packs give 2,700 Gems for $59.97. The 3,000-pack asks $79.99 for three hundred more.
Buy the subscription for the quality tier and the style unlocks, then buy Gems in 900s. Never the biggest pack, and never a subscription as a way to buy currency.
Who Owns What You Generate
Yes, you can use your Promptchan output commercially: no commercial-use clause, no attribution requirement, no revenue restriction in the terms.
But the mode you generated in changes the answer, and the homepage FAQ never mentions modes.
That is the legal machinery behind the Clone button everybody loves: clone somebody's recipe and you exercise a license they granted by publishing, and they exercise yours right back.
A fair trade, disclosed in the terms and absent from the marketing. Two caveats: the models carry their own open-source use restrictions, and the terms decline any position on whether AI output is copyrightable.
Generate commercially in private mode or not at all. Private mode costs money, which makes free-tier commercial work a contradiction rather than a plan.
What “Private AI Generating” Actually Means?
“Private AI Generating” is a publication setting. It keeps your creations out of the public gallery and visible only to you — the entire definition, stated identically on two screens.
It is not confidentiality. Prompts, outputs and uploads are machine-scanned at creation across images, video and chat, and generation can be blocked before delivery.
That scanning is the correct call — it is how you keep an uncensored platform lawful — but it sits badly beside a feature block promising “enhanced privacy”. Private hides your work from other users, not from Promptchan.
It is also paid-only, which the homepage omits while selling it as a headline feature.
The policy has its own problems: dated June 2024 while describing session-replay tooling clearly newer than that, no retention period beyond “as long as necessary”, and two sections carrying the same heading.
Most striking: chat logs are not listed as a category of personal data at all, on a product whose headline is talking to an AI girlfriend.

Treat everything you type as stored and readable. True across the category, but Promptchan is the one selling privacy as a feature name.
Is Promptchan AI Safe And Legit?
Promptchan is a real, operating product, and three things deserve caution.
The third-party numbers are decent: Trustpilot 4.3 out of 5 from 207 reviews, App Store 4.2 from 823 ratings. The Trustpilot profile is unclaimed, so nobody is answering those reviews.
Android is the first caution. No live Google Play listing turned up under any package name, and Promptchan's own mobile site offers a direct APK download beside a Play link that goes nowhere.
Sideloading an APK means no store billing, no refund route and no review of what you install. On Android, use the browser.
The Reddit thread is the second. A thread whose top comment calls Promptchan a scam still ranks on page one, and you will find it in seconds.
That thread is three years old. It predates the move to the current domain, the video generator, the chat and most of the model lineup.
The third is coverage. No G2 profile, no Capterra listing, no mainstream technology publication has looked at this product, and one coupon directory shows a 4.5 rating built from zero ratings.

Seduced AI, a fourth worth naming, ships 30 models and 200-plus extensions but no chat at all — a pure generator rather than a comparison.
Pick Candy AI for polish and a cheap annual, OurDream for scene-driven ai roleplay and generous coins, and promptchan ai when pictures and clips are the point and conversation is seasoning.
The Product Is Better Than Its Own Interface
Look at what discovery costs here. The gallery hides the seven newest models, the quality axis carries three names across three screens, the engine tier hides inside a style string and silently rewrites your filter panel, and the pose list does not exist in any published form.
Fifty-one style-and-quality combinations ship with no map and no explanation of what any of it does, while the homepage spends its space on twelve near-identical cards restating one claim under different headings.
None of that makes the generator worse. It makes it invisible, which commercially is the same thing.
